Supporting early-stage biotech and clean-tech company growth

Nonprofit technology incubator North Shore Innoventures has rerooted itself at Cummings Center, where for eight years it has been helping early-stage biotech and clean-tech companies increase their probability of success. Since its founding in 2009, NSIV has raised more than $181 million in grants and equity and created 270 jobs. It was previously scattered across six lab and office suites, which made collaboration difficult. This past summer, NSIV relocated to a consolidated built-to-suit space at 100 Cummings Center, allowing NSIV to focus solely on its business, host tours, and provide viable resources at one location.

Cummings Properties’ expansion guarantee has allowed NSIV to thrive without having to move to a different campus. The 12,000-square-foot buildout completed by Cummings Properties’ in-house construction team, includes a combination of office and meeting spaces. NSIV’s laboratories include chemical and BL2-rated spaces complete with a variety of state-of-the-art equipment for genomics, cellular research, and chemical analytics, including a spectrophotometer, two mass spectrometers, and a gene sequencer.  The dry lab space includes instrumentation for electrical analysis, rapid prototyping via a 3-D printer, as well as a variety of machine shop tools.  The office space allows incubators to grow within the incubator, moving from co-working stations into offices that can accommodate up to four people.

“Collaboration is at the heart of our model. We bring shared physical resources, sponsor services, experienced entrepreneurs and investment advisers together with promising young companies. Together we help them conserve capital, make good decisions, build strong teams and achieve development and funding milestones. We are committed to success.” – NSIV
