Learning by doing at Cummings Properties

Tim ParzialeThirty years ago, Tim Parziale joined the Cummings Properties team as an HVAC technician. Today, he’s the field division manager for the commercial real estate firm’s Beverly division, which includes the 2 million-square-foot Cummings Center business campus.

When asked why he has spent three decades with the same company—a rarity today—Parziale said, “I have learned so much here, and still no two days are ever alike. There are always new challenges and new ways to improve how we work. Plus, my colleagues are simply second to none.”

He learned multiple trades while on the job, and ultimately earned five licenses: HVAC technician, journeyman electrician, master electrician, master sheet metal worker, and unrestricted commercial builder. While putting these skills into practice, Parziale also earned a promotion to team leader, and played an integral role in what became known as “The Cummings Big Dig,” the relocation of utilities underground at Cummings Park in Woburn. During this substantial project, he learned a new and equally important skill: how to identify and develop talent within his crew.

Following his transfer to Beverly, Parziale took on a substantive role in the renovations of Cummings Center – a project that was featured prominently in The Wall Street Journal – and was promoted to field division manager. He oversees the more than 70 tradespeople who maintain Cummings Center as well as the firm’s newer Dunham Ridge campus.

“Tim is widely regarded for his dedication, his willingness to make himself available at any time of day, and his habit of treating the campus as if it were his own home,” said Cummings Center general manager Steve Drohosky. “His teammates like to joke that Tim would crawl under cars if it meant picking up a piece of errant litter.”

Since its founding in 1970, Cummings Properties has frequently promoted from within. Among its 360 employees, the average tenure is 11 years, with 20 colleagues serving for 30 years or more. The firm has in-house expertise in a variety of disciplines, including all of the construction trades, plus architecture, engineering, sales, graphic design, accounting, and legal.

Is this a team you’d like to join? We’re looking for talented and motivated carpenters, electricians, HVAC technicians, grounds workers, plumbers, and more. Check out Cummings’ career opportunities online and apply today.
