Cummings Properties honors 20-year clients

Camaraderie, laughter, and a surprise gift were on the agenda during Cummings Properties’ recent celebration of long-term clients. The event – which took place April 26 at the commercial real estate firm’s flagship building, TradeCenter 128 – was held in honor of the more than 80 businesses and organizations that have leased with Cummings for 20 years or more. During the evening’s festivities, company founder and new author Bill Cummings called upon George Holland of Woburn and Brian Sisitzky of Winchester – who are the longest serving colleague and client, respectively – to address the gathering. Cummings Foundation “sustains” 33 local nonprofits with $10 million in grants

Dozens of local nonprofit organizations received news this week that likely made not just their day, but their decade. Woburn-based Cummings Foundation awarded a total of $10 million to 30 Greater Boston charities through its new Sustaining Grants program, which provides funding for up to 10 years. Each organization will receive annual installments of between $20,000 and $50,000. The Sustaining Grants program builds on Cummings Foundation’s $100K for 100 program. First offered in 2012, $100K for 100 annually awards $10 million through multi-year grants of $100,000 each to 100 nonprofits that are based in and primarily serve Essex, Middlesex, and Suffolk counties. Next Step Healthcare chooses Woburn for corporate headquarters

Next Step Healthcare, which specializes in skilled nursing facilities, will open its first corporate office in Woburn in May. The company has leased a 10,700-square-foot space at Cummings Properties’ TradeCenter 128 business campus. “Next Step Healthcare was looking for a first-class office space that also afforded easy highway access,” said Senior Leasing Director Rob Yacobian of Cummings Properties. “TradeCenter 128 fit the bill perfectly, with its outstanding quality and suite of convenient amenities. We’re delighted to welcome them to the Woburn business community.” Next Step Healthcare owns and manages nearly 40 skilled nursing healthcare facilities and several assisted living communities, the majority of which are in Massachusetts. Biotechnology company chooses Beverly for large-scale U.S. expansion

LexaGene Holdings Inc., a biotechnology company that develops instrumentation for pathogen detection, has significantly expanded its operations in Massachusetts. Originally based in Vancouver, Canada, LexaGene recently signed a lease for a 17,500-square-foot office, lab, and R&D space at 500 Cummings Center, Suite 4550, in Beverly. The new location includes a state-of-the-art, level-two biosafety laboratory, which will allow LexaGene to adhere to biocontainment precautions specified by the CDC while testing for pathogens. There was an excitement in the air at Book Ends in Winchester on Saturday, March 10. With more than 100 people in attendance, the independent bookstore was packed to capacity. People arrived early and stayed late for the chance to meet and speak with Bill Cummings about his newly released memoir, “Starting Small and Making It Big.” The venue was a fitting one for Cummings’ first event as an author. Winchester has been the hometown of Bill and his wife, Joyce, for more than 50 years.
